Her mother's ancestral lineage is Spanish and English. She was the first born of a family with six kids. Four are her siblings from the previous marriage to Taylor's father. Family resided in Buenos Aires up until Taylor-Joy was 6 years old, after which they moved to the Victoria district of London. Taylor-Joy says the move to London was traumatic and she did not take the time to learn English in order to prevent returning to Argentina. Hill House had to be her new school after she switched from Northlands. Then, she was enrolled at Queen's Gate School to study ballet and act in the school's productions. After 16 she decided to leave the school in order to focus in acting full-time. Taylor-Joy's desire to become an actress professionally was born at an early age.
